Norway’s Stave Churches Get A Facelift

stavechurch Norway’s stave churches are some of the oldest wooden buildings in the world. The stave church at Ornes (NCG printed version, Vol. 1, p. 240; eBook, p. 262) is believed to be the oldest of the old (c. 1130), is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is reopening September 2nd after being closed for significant restoration. There are 30 stave churches left standing in Norway and the government has pledged funds to protect and preserve these historic landmarks
