Have A Great Summer!

by Phyllis on June 1, 2011

To those of you who are planning to sail in Norway this summer, we send you our best wishes for a safe and enjoyable cruise. We envy you and wish we could be there too! However, all going well, we are also going to be out cruising—in Greenland, Baffin Island and Labrador. (We will be posting on our voyage here.)

Though we will not be posting on the Norwegian Cruising Guide site over the next few months while we’re in the north, we’ll start posting again in the fall, when we will also start working on the next (7th) Edition of the Norwegian Cruising Guide.

While we are in remote places, there may be a delay of up to 4 weeks in addition to the normal lead time of 3 to 6 weeks for the delivery of paper books. However, eBooks will still be delivered instantly and you can order black and white books from Amazon.com/Amazon.co.uk who typically deliver in 1 to 2 weeks.

Have a Great Summer!

Hello.

We will sail from Inverness to Norway this summer, and we planned to let the boat in Alesund for next winter. We found a place with the help of one of your contacts in Alesund (thank you Norvegian Cruising Guide !). Recent changes of Norvegian Custom rules changed our plans, and we think to let Embellie III in Denmark…instead of sailing north and north…
We try to follow the latest news on the subject on the internet: it seems possible to winter in Norway with an autorization of the custom, as somme boats did this winter ??

It is not very easy to undertand, in fact..

Thank you for your help.

A quick note written in Labrador on our way south: There are changes coming soon, as far as we can tell, in Norwegian Customs legislation re foreign boats wintering in Norway. The public hearing process on the new legislation closed August 29th and we are hoping for a new ruling soon. The proposed new legislation would allow boats to be stored anywhere in the country (not just in bonded storage) with permission from Customs (a special application form will be developed). A VAT exemption can be granted for up to 12 months, with a further 12 months after application. We have our fingers crossed that this will pass as written. We will let you know as soon as we hear.
