Best wishes for the holiday season and for 2012 from the Norwegian Cruising Guide. You can view our Christmas “card” here.
John and I are excited about the upcoming 2012 Edition. Two highlights in the new edition, thanks to Hans Jakob and Eli, are a comprehensive update to Svalbard and a new “Landfalls and Favourite Harbours” section for each mainland chapter.
And, last but definitely not least, we thank all of you for your many contributions over the years. We couldn’t do it without you!
To those of you who are planning to sail in Norway this summer, we send you our best wishes for a safe and enjoyable cruise. We envy you and wish we could be there too! However, all going well, we are also going to be out cruising—in Greenland, Baffin Island and Labrador. (We will be posting on our voyage here.)
At over 600 pages, with more than 860 harbours/anchorages, the 2010 Edition of the Norwegian Cruising Guide is already the most comprehensive and up-to-date English-language guide to the Norwegian coast. Note that part of the south shore of Ytre Norskøya is protected as a natural heritage site and landing is not allowed. A map detailing the off bounds area is available from the Sysselmann in Longyearbyen. (Printed version Vol. II, p. 219; eBook, p. 506.)
The Holmenkollen Ski Jump, which was an Oslo attraction due to the incredible view as well as the ski museum located there, has been closed since 2008 while being rebuilt. It is now open once again. The view from the observation deck is definitely worth the journey! (See Oslo in the Norwegian Cruising Guide—Vol. 1 printed version, p. 95; eBook, p. 117.)
Let us know what you think about the new ski jump or give us any other updates for Oslo by leaving a comment.
