John Harries
John Harries is co-author, co-editor and designer of the Norwegian Cruising Guide.
He has sailed over 100,000 ocean miles, most of it in the high latitudes. Together with Phyllis Nickel, his partner in sailing and life, he spent two years sailing in Norway, including a 7-week cruise of Svalbard and two winters living aboard Morgan’s Cloud in Tromsø, above the Arctic Circle.
John’s extensive offshore and high latitude experience has been invaluable in producing the General Cruising Information section of the Guide, which covers everything from anchoring to weather procurement to polar bear protection to ice management.
Though he isn’t as detail oriented as Phyllis, he is a computer nerd, which makes this whole project feasible.
