Upgrade from The Third Edition to the 2008 Edition

Please don't be intimidated by the number of steps. What you will be doing is deactivating the old Guide, downloading the new Guide and then activating it. It will only take a few minutes.

  1. Read these instructions first.

  2. Check your edition and version by opening the Guide and checking on the bottom right of any page. If it is 2008 Edition, Version 1.00, you are up to date and need to do nothing further.

  3. Go to the Help/About Secure-e-Book menu on the top left hand side of your screen.

  4. Write down the Activation Key that you see there. Note that it is case sensitive.

  5. Click OK to close the window.

  6. Go to the Help/Deactivate eBook menu on the top left hand side of your screen.

  7. Click the Deactivate button. Your book will revert to Sample Content mode.

  8. Close the eBook.

  9. Right click on the button at the end of these instructions.

  10. Choose the Save Target As option from the pop up menu.

  11. A Save As window will appear. Select the same folder on your computer where you saved the NCG.exe file originally and click Save. (Depending on your operating system set up, you may or may not see the .exe suffix.)

  12. You should see a warning that NCG.exe already exists and asking you if you wish to replace it. Say Yes. If you don't get this message, it means that you are not in the folder that has your old version. Stop the download and try again. It is important that you don't have more than one copy of the Guide on your computer, particularly if they are different versions. If you can't find your original Guide, use the Windows Search option under the Start menu. If you need help with searching, see Trouble Shooting—Opening the Guide.

  13. When the download is complete, click the Run button. The Guide will open in Sample Content mode.

  14. Go to the eBook/Activate eBook menu on the top left hand corner of your screen.

  15. Type in the Activation Key you copied down. If you forgot to copy it down or wrote it down incorrectly, just send us an e-mail and we'll send you your key.

  16. Click the Activate button.

  17. You are done.
