Preikestolen Makes It Big

by phyllis on January 5, 2014

waypoint_chartPreikestolen, the spectacular cliff that rises 600 m straight out of the Lysefjord (NCG, Vol. II, p. 151), has become a very popular tourist destination. In fact, somewhere around 205,000 visitors made it there in the summer of 2013. On a sad note, one Spanish tourist even chose it as a place to commit suicide—a disturbing sign of its growing popularity.

So, though it is an incredibly beautiful place and worth a visit, don’t expect to be there in glorious solitude—something still possible at other equally beautiful but more remote places in Norway.
